Everything comes to an end – even my yearly stay in Buenos Aires. I am home again now, back in Slovenia, having travelled from the Argentine summer straight into winter. As always, returning is a mix of gratitude, reflection, and a quiet sense of longing.
Before fully settling back into everyday routines, I want to capture a short (and very personal) reflection on my 34 days in Buenos Aires – a city that continues to shape me not only as a tango DJ, but also as a person.
A Month Filled With Tango and Culture
During this stay, Buenos Aires once again offered exactly what it does best: intensity, inspiration, and an endless rhythm of life.
With my husband, we danced at 31 milongas, each with its own energy, codes, embraces, and musical conversations. We also took 10 tango lessons with Los Totis, diving deeper into technique, musicality, and connection, and I had the privilege of DJ-ing one unforgettable night at Milonga Parakultural – a true honor and a moment I will always carry with me.
But tango was only part of the story.
Beyond the Dance Floor
Buenos Aires is culture – lived, breathed, and felt daily.
During these weeks, we attended two cinema screenings and three theatre performances on Avenida Corrientes, where we both clearly felt how much more natural Spanish has become for us. We also experienced a piano concert at Teatro Colón, a powerful reminder of what live music can communicate beyond words.
And then there were the everyday realities of life in Buenos Aires: very little sleep, a lot of Argentine steaks and excellent food, and countless hugs shared with both old friends and new ones.
Tango, Work, and Real Life
This was not a holiday in the classic sense. Alongside milongas and lessons, there were also twelve work-related Zoom meetings and many hours dedicated to ongoing projects. Buenos Aires may feel like another universe, but professional commitments always travel with us.
It was intense. It was demanding. And it was absolutely worth every single minute.
Until Next Time
Buenos Aires, thank you – for the music, the embraces, the inspiration, and the lessons, both on and off the dance floor. You continue to remind me why tango is not just something we dance, but something we live.
Until next year.
